Our expedition kicks off in the charming town of Fargo, which was founded in 1871 when the first settlers staked out homestead claims at the point where the Red River of the North meets the Sheyenne River. In the 1880s, Fargo became known as the "divorce capital" of the Midwest. The North Dakota Agricultural College, now known as North Dakota State University, was founded in Fargo in 1890. On February 14, 1872, the United States Post Office officially changed the post office name to Fargo. Fargo is the seat of Cass County in southeastern North Dakota and is located on the Red River of the North, opposite Moorhead, Minnesota.
As we continue our journey westwards, we'll reach the enchanting destination of Billings. Billings is the largest city in the state of Montana and was founded in 1882. Originally, Billings was a railroad town and served as a shipping point for cattle and other agricultural products. The city was named after Frederick H. Billings, a former president of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Billings experienced rapid growth during the early 20th century due to the development of oil fields in the surrounding area. Today, Billings is a thriving city known for its vibrant downtown, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
